Micromax Canvas Infinity at INR 9,999 : Does it worth the money?

Indian smartphone vendor Micromax has returned to the market with their latest device Canvas Infinite which comes with a nearly bezel less 5.7 inch display. It has 13 MP rear and 16 MP selfie camera. Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC, it has been priced at INR 9,999. Being first of its kind under Rs. 10,000 price range, is it worth buying? Let's take a closer look on it. (Click here to see the in-depth specifications of Micromax Canvas Infinity).

Micromax Canvas Infinity at 9,999 INR: Does it worth the money?

Micromax Canvas Infinity design and display

Micromax Canvas Infinity comes in a plastic body. It is 7.3 mm thick and weighs 159g. It supports dual Sim and has a dedicated memory card slot. Now the dedicated memory card slot is clearly an winner over hybrid SIM slot. The fingerprint scanner is located at back.

The unique selling point of the device is its 5.7 inch display with 18:9 aspect ratio. The aspect ratio is same as LG Q6 and  Samsung Galaxy S8/S8 Plus. Due to near bezel less design, the device has almost same length of regular 5.5 inch phones but the width is narrower which makes the smartphone comfortable in hands. Resolution of this device is 720 x 1440. At this price we can get many smartphones with full HD 1080p resolution. Touch response of Canvas Infinity is also a disappointment. It clearly doesn't match the smoothest experience.

Micromax Canvas Infinity Performance

Micromax Canvas Infinity is powered by 1.4 GHz 64-bit Quad Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chipset which is built on 28 nm architecture. It has 3 GB Single Channel LPDDR3 RAM with 32 GB internal memory which is expandable via dedicated microSD slot. It works fine while performing normal tasks but heavy multi tasking and gaming experience is not so good because of poor memory management. Furthermore at Rs 9,999 there is Redmi Note 4 which is powered by 2.2 Ghz 64-bit Octa Core Snapdragon 625 Chipset which is more powerful and more power efficient due to it's 14 nm architecture.

Micromax Canvas Infinity Software and other features

It runs on Stock Android UI based on Android Nougat 7.1.2. Micromax has confirmed that Android Oreo update will be available on this device which is really a plus point for a budget smartphone but then, company's own launcher which runs on top of Android ruins some of the latest features like quick toggle and application shortcut.

This device tried to give iOS like experience to users by offering a iOS inspired theme but unfortunately it fails to offer the creamy user experience of iOS. Micromax Canvas Infinity doesn't have gyroscope sensor.

Micromax Canvas Infinity Camera

Camera is another talking point of Micromax Canvas Infinity. It features a 16 MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture and 81.5° wide angle lens which allows you to take selfies with bokeh effect. Colour reproduction is good but unnatural blur can be found sometimes while taking selfies.

The primary camera is of 13 MP with same f/2.0 aperture and 81.5° wide angle lens. It does a decent job in normal daylight. But it doesn't impress in low light conditions. Presence of noise is detected on shots taken in low light.

Micromax Canvas Infinity battery

Micromax Canvas Infinity comes with a 2,900 mAh battery which lasts a day with moderate use. The battery rests under the removable back cover. It heats up a little while gaming but not beyond comfort zone.  Moreover there is no quick charging or fast charging feature provided by the company.

Micromax Canvas Infinity price and availability

Micromax launched this device on 22nd of August and it is now available at INR 9,999.

Our verdict

Go for it only if you are a moderate user and want to experience the bezel less screen and bokeh effect in your selfies. If you are a person who uses his/her smartphone extensively like me or if you love to play games we recommend not to buy this device.
